How to make a Tiny Desk AI meme video

Updated October 27, 2026

The Tiny Desk AI meme recasts the final moments of Charlie Wilson's NPR Tiny Desk encore with new faces, from a losing coach to your best friend. This guide covers the four steps, which photos give the best likeness, and what to do when a render misses.

What you need

  • One photo for every person you want on stage, up to five
  • Public figures are fine. Nobody under 18
  • $9.88 for one video, the same for 1 to 5 people (pricing)

Step 1: Choose your photos

Use one photo per person: selfie, headshot or press photo with a single face, looking at the lens, well lit and unobstructed. Head and shoulders works best.

Step 2: Assign the seats

The stage starts with the original five performers. Tap lead vocals, sax, keys or either backup singer and upload a photo. Recast any number of seats; skipped seats stay dogs, and clearing a dog keeps the original performer.

Step 3: Render

Confirm the parody checkbox and hit render. It takes a few minutes, and you can leave the page.

Step 4: Save and share

Download the 9:16 MP4 with the track. If TikTok or Instagram mutes it, post the muted copy and attach "Outstanding" from the in-app sounds.

Which photo works best

  • One person per photo, facing the camera. Crop group photos to a single face
  • In focus with even light. Daylight beats a dim room
  • Nothing over the face: no sunglasses, masks, hands or hair
  • Skip cartoons, beauty filters and AI avatars
  • Plain clothing helps; logos and bold prints can leak into the shot

What you get

  • Vertical 9:16 MP4, 720p, roughly 18 seconds, track included, no watermark
  • A muted copy for platforms that strip the audio
  • Usually ready in 7 to 10 minutes; we email you when it's done
  • Mouth movement follows the original performance, so it lands on the beat: close, not flawless

If it doesn't come out right

Nearly every miss traces back to the photo. Check these first:

  • Weak likeness: try a sharper, front-facing photo with the face fully visible
  • Logos or prints on the clothes: use a photo in plain clothing
  • The original singer remains, or the new face appears late: email us and we'll return the credits
  • Anything else obviously broken: email us for the credits back

When to post

The meme spikes around game weekends, with fresh losing-coach versions after Saturday college games and Sunday NFL. Office, family and friend versions work any day of the week.

Tutorial questions

What do I need to make a Tiny Desk AI meme?

A clear photo of each person (1 to 5) and a few minutes. No CapCut, template, prompt or editor.

Which AI model renders the Tiny Desk meme?

Kling 4.0 by Kuaishou in edit mode at 720p, rendering the full clip in one pass.

How long does it take?

Typically 7 to 10 minutes. You'll get an email when it's ready.

Does the lip sync match the song?

Close but not perfect. Mouths follow the original performance, so they move on the beat. If it's clearly off, email us and we'll return the credits.

Why doesn't the face look right?

Usually the photo: sunglasses, a hand or hair across the face, a profile angle, a group shot or a heavy filter. Use one sharp, front-facing face. If the video is clearly broken, email us for the credits back.

Can I make it myself with Seedance or another AI video model?

You can, if you're comfortable editing and paying for an AI video model per shot. Expect paid renders for each shot and roughly an hour of cutting. Here it takes minutes and costs the same for 1 to 5 people.

AI gets a strong likeness, not a twin. Coaches and celebrities are fine as an obvious parody; no one under 18. Refund policy
